When it comes to makeup it’s easy to get stuck in a rut, but like many of my friends I regularly watch Trinny Woodall’s Instagram stories to get some skincare and make up tips.
I had the opportunity to meet her recently at the launch of her Trinny London makeup line at Fenwick Newcastle.
Having tried all the make-up brands, from Charlotte Tilbury to Bobbi Brown and Chanel, I wasn’t thinking Trinny’s little ‘stack’ was anything more than a bit of a gimmick – something nice for the handbag but nothing that would replace my failsafe basics I thought, but I was wrong!
Trinny London always starts with its Match2Me personalisation, which quite simply takes five minutes to do online but its accuracy blew me away. Have a go yourself over on her website.
I learned which of her products would suit my skin tones, and there was such a selection I could also go with what took my fancy on the day too.
Before we get to the colours however, the product that has possibly changed my life is her BFF skin perfector cream – a magic little tube of whitish-grey cream that when applied just magically turns into your skin tone. It left my skin smooth and glowy, with all blemishes covered up just enough – like a magic Instagram filter!
From here I chose the first little pot in my stack – the Just a Touch foundation/concealer in Yas, which glides on and is perfect just to touch up around the eyes and nose.
Ta-da! Smooth clear skin, but not obviously covered up – the holy grail of stressed out 40+ skin in my opinion.
The fun is then in the colours, so I chose a lovely dark burgundy cheek tint called Munchkin which gives the look of a walk in the fresh air.
Last but not least I decided to take a risk – as I have so many eye pencils I wanted to focus on skin and lips at the event, so I went for the brightest shade my Match2Me recommended. Pookie, a gorgeous fuchsia can be either dabbed on for a light tint or full on for a bright modern lip, is not something I’d usually wear, but it lifted my whole face so it’s a keeper, I've had so many compliments wearing it.
What else could you want when it comes to a revamp of your makeup look in your forties? Glowy skin, fresh new colours and all your products in one little lightweight stack you can just throw in your bag.
