It’s been a bewildering and shocking week in the news for women which makes this book by Ruth Hobday more relevant than ever. The book asks two hundred women from a wide range of backgrounds from well-known activists, artists and everyday women to answer the same five questions. Their answers provide an uplifting and heart breaking collection of personal stories filled with courage, pain and love.
200 Women is published to coincide with a traveling exhibition and an interactive website, to carry on the promise of this ever-evolving project.
A friend of mine posted a picture of her recent purchase of a pair similar to these slippers on her Facebook page and everyone immediately ‘needed’ them. Granted, they are not the most glamourous of footwear but slipping these on at the end of a dark, wet and cold day is going to bring me so much joy I don’t care.
Mini Moderns is a London based interiors brand who specialise in applied pattern on a wide range of products from fabrics to ceramics. Their clever use of surface pattern references travel, architecture and literature. The ‘Window Film’ line is one our favourites, with designs from their ever-popular wallpaper range transferred onto easy to install window films. Drab, uninspiring windows and glass doors are instantly and cleverly transformed.
In my previous life as a café owner, this Sticky Lemon slice recipe was a constant on our cake menu for 6 years and for good reason. It is a pain to make but the results are well worth the effort. Serve it warm with a dollop of fresh cream or even as a dinner party dessert with a raspberry coulis and ice cream.
Once the preserve of geography teachers everywhere the Corduroy suit is having a major come back. H&M’s brown version sold out quickly and Mango’s pale pink cord trousers are a firm favourite over on Instagram. It is a look that divides opinion but I’ve always been a fan of corduroy trousers as an alternative to jeans in the winter months. These velvet ones from Mango are my current favourite.
Back in May L’Oréal announced its collaboration with Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing to create a couture lipstick range. The limited-edition line has 12 colours, designed with the aim of offering a variety shades that worked for women of all colours and races. Navy and purple hues (Rebellion & Freedom) do feature but for us here at Watson & White ‘Confession’ (a peachy pink shade) and ‘Domination’ (a rich red) are a more wearable option. Packaged in sleek gold and marble effect casing, priced at £12.99 each these are little fashion fix gems.
