EVENING DRESSES FOR THOSE THAT DON’T DO DRESSY

In my day job I go to a lot of black tie functions this time of year, and despite buying something fancy every year I nearly always feel uncomfortable and never wear it again.

I have one midi black dress I adore but its come a time when I can’t wheel it out again for the hundredth time!

So with a few different events coming up, I have decided to look for something I can wear a few times and will suit my more simple aesthetic – sequins we are not!

I ended up buying from The Outnet - clearance sister of Net-a-Porter - spending a bit more than usual but as you’ll see this Halston Heritage tuxedo jumpsuit at less than £200 has a lot of mileage for seasons to come.

A slightly looser yet similar vibe that came a close second was this Hush jumpsuit from John Lewis, with gold stripe. I was imagining this looking just as great with gold sandals or converse trainers (always thinking of cost per wear!) but at £85 you needn’t worry.

Stepping away from black, this pale blue silk dress from H&M has a high collar which I love, and would require nothing more than a nice shoe and drop earring. (Oh and if you want an almost identical one in black its £59.99 in the sale now).

Another dress with a high draped neck and sleeves in the most beautiful soft sherry velvet is this classic from Anthropologie, just on the right side of feminine with a goth vibe but a bit pricey at £350.

Another velvet tip is the shorter but cool high neck swing dress from & Other Stories which would look great with chunky evening heels or dressed down with boots.

All in all I’m not much of a ballgown girl, but had the new Erdem collection for H&M been available yet this beauty might just have swayed me,

And have you seen our UNA mididress just in stock? A gorgeous paisley that could look great at any posh event.

Off to the big smoke in my tuxedo jumpsuit this week. If you’re heading to a posh party this season, hope these tips help and do share with us any of your fancy finds.
